The ECS is a collaborative project, as a result copyright of the material included in the system is held by a number of different groups. Applications for reuse of materials and all other inquiries should be addressed to the organization responsible for the information used. Copyright in individual documents in the ECS rests with the original publishers of these documents. The copyright-holders alone are responsible for the contents of their documents.

The information presented on the ECS is protected under the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literature and Artistic works, under other international conventions and under national laws on copyright and neighboring rights. Short extracts of the material presented may be freely cited for educational or other noncommercial purposes, without written permission, so long as the original source is appropriately acknowledged. Reproduction of longer sections, or reproduction for commercial purposes, requires prior written permission of the relevant copyright holder.
